This beast has an interesting back story! I bought his mother off Yardley’s fancy heifer set several years back with the intent of raising some simmi show heifers for my kids to show and me to prod at a neighbor who has some simmis. Bred her to I-80 the first go because, well, I didn’t have my crap together to get some calving ease simmi something. That I-80 calf won Sublette County Fair in Wyoming…Cont.
April Born Monopoly out of my good Whiskey cow, like his brothers before him this one is good. Full sib to our 2016 high seller and last years high seller that went on to be 3rd overall steer at Hoosier Beef Congress. He is cocky, cool, stout, and good on the move. Awesome haired with so much look and presence.
Hold over for later state fair. A steer that was raised on a young recip that didn’t fair well with last year’s drought and the big winter. He has changed more than any since weaning. A huge hippped, really stout pinned calf that is freak fronted, sound footed, and great haired. Several maternal brothers have found success. This one has more big time pieces than any of his brothers. Just add feed and work.
Unfortunately, this one wasn’t blessed with his siblings roan hair coat. Massively big footed, sound structured steer that is a flush mate to a calf that was Champion Shorthorn at Hoosier Beef Congress and Reserve Shorthorn at Indiana State Fair. Also the popular high seller last year that we have gotten good reports from Texas on. This is the soundest structured, stoutest boned, and best haired calf of the litter.
Probably the best steer yet from Luke and Kristen’s Walks cow. Cool built, great structured, and powerful, with an awesome look. This is a good haired one that I think has a ton of promise. Full sib is the high point exotic heifer this year in Arkansas and a sib was Reserve Steer at Archuletta County Fair, CO this Summer.
Flush mate to lot 7 and very similar. This one is darker and prettier colored, shorter backed, and more flexible in his spine These are good doing, easy feeding calves that will stay sound for the long haul.
This stout blue roan steer is out of my herd bull who is a Merlin from Rob Vanhove. He is moderate, super stout, and really good built. His classy shorthorn mother has raised a couple good sale steers that have fed good and done well for the families who fed them.
Chubby, chubby, and more chubby. He reminds me of the girls at several parties I went to in Lincoln, NE when I was in college. This is easily the best bellied calf we have ever sold. Natural calf out of Luke and Kristen’s up and coming donor. He is sound, good built, and stout. I would be very surprised if he isn’t amongst the easiest feeders out there. He will eat anything that doesn’t eat him first.
This younger steer has grown on me a bunch in the last few weeks. He is out of a good young Monopoly daughter that was all the rage with judging teams that were through here when she was a calf and as a bred. He is square, stout, and cocky but is really gentle and acts good. He is one of the best centered Here I Am’s I’ve seen.
Flush mate to lots 1 and 23 on this sale. Good Here I Am steer that is just a little skinny. He’s big legged, sound, and big pinned. Super hairy as a baby that I think he will be wooly if managed correctly. He had a little rough start, I had to help him into the world with my belt, because I didn’t have anything else with me and the weather was brutal for the next several weeks. Good thing no one was watching when I pulled him, my pants falling off, belt on the calf’s legs, flailing around in the mud. I’m sure it was a sight.
