This is the only steer on either sale out of a pasture bull we use here. Stout, shapely, and good looking. There are several calves on this sale out of “Bubbles” daughters. He was a bull that we raised and used who was a Strictly Business out of a Meyer 734 OCC Dixie Erica. Good young cows with a bright future. I see this steer being stout, sound, and soggy with a good look as a fat!
A really solid baldie steer that has a lot of upside. I guess that’s what “breeding for the look” will get you. I always like baldie cattle and this is a good one. Very proportionate, good in his center body, sound, and functional at the ground and in his lower joints.
Another sound, attractive calf that has a good look. His growth curve makes me think he could feed into the fall or early winter if you want. He is good fronted, good haired, and functional in his lower skeleton. Just add feed. Will be surgically dehorned before the sale.
This sweet hearted heifer is an absolute power house with a pedigree to look at. Talk about the perfect maternal pedigree, Good as it Gets, Whiskey out of Dark Horse’s full sister, yes that is correct! Perfect middle body, awesome rib and flank, square, sound, practical, and still a neck as long and thin as my junior high speech teacher. Unlike him, she is striking and has good hair.
Really cool brockle faced heifer that is a classy cross one model. Sound, practical, and cowy enough to raise club calves – and stout, and powerful and big hipped enough to be a market heifer. Make a choice as far as how you feed and mange her. She’s good either way! Will be surgically dehorned before the sale.

If you gauge how much I like a calf by how many pictures I have of them on my phone, he’s the clear front runner. Paperable purebred shorthorn, awesome built, really stout, and shapely. This one is cool, hairy, and midwest state fair sized. Get it on!!! Surgically dehorned before sale.
I had to sneak outside of my daughter’s basketball game to buy this cow. Not because it was loud, since fourth grade girls basketball is not really exciting, but so Kali didn’t bust me and shut it down. I got it in my head that I was infact a big enough player to, not only sport bid, but to buy the lead off bred heifer on Rob Vanhove’s sale. Crazy right! Some guy from Durango, CO – “where in the world is that?” a bidder on the Dakota Classic lead off bred heifer. Well I was so ampted about a girls basketball game, that I just stayed outside and bought her. This steer along with lot 31 and 32 heifers are the product of the first flush on that cow. Maybe I’m on to something?
Maybe time to fire up the swather and windrow a champion. This thing is out there, freaky, exotic, hair like Cosmo Kramer, deep heels, and squishy pasterns. His mother produced the Champion Continental at Weld County for Jed Sidwell. I can tell you that when Matt comes through he always looks up from his SnapChat or BookFace long enough to ask what this things mother is. She’s a freak and so is he!
My good friends and helpers, the Halphen family, have made me look like a joker over the last few years. They have a good set of cattle that have basically originated from here. All stuff that I thought I could live without. They have made more excellent steers out of about 15 of my “not favorite” heifers than I can make out of 150 of the ones I was sure I needed to keep for cows. This thing is good. Yeti feet and hair, awesome structure, big hipped, tons of look and presence, and mid-west sized.
